BACK AT IT
Why I haven't felt like blogging lately & the steps I've taken to fight those feelings.
Ever since my Alopecia/hair loss incident I haven't felt like blogging. I know what your thinking... Yes, I have put out blog posts and Youtube videos since then, but I've been having thoughts of "is blogging what I'm actually supposed to be doing with my life?" Since April I've gone back and forth between feeling 100% in love with it & not seeing potential in it. Now I've come to the conclusion that, like anything, just because you LOVE something doesn't mean it wont frustrate you.
THE GRASS IS GREEN RIGHT HERE.
The time I fell out of love with my blog was also right around the time that I started obsessing over other people's lives.
Goodness.... If I had a dollar for every time I obsessed over someone's Instagram feed wishing I had their life, I'd never have to work again.
We all know comparison is a dangerous way to live, yet we all get sucked in so easily. The time I fell out of love with my blog was also right around the time that I started obsessing over other people's lives.
I would go on a crazy social media stalking spree... checking in to see who was being gifted what, working with what brands, and if they looked happier than me. Well basically I was setting myself up for failure right there. Yet I continued to do this... and I found myself complaining about the life that I lived.
THIS NEEDED TO STOP FOR ME TO KEEP BLOGGING.
So what actually pulled me out of the black hole of comparison?
Believe it or not... a youtube video! This one right HERE actually.
I've always admired Lydia Elise Millen and her ability to stay positive, and when I rewatched her video on Jealousy and Comparison I immediately felt inspired to turn my attention back on myself and off of others. Once I started working on myself again I found a new love for blogging!
STEPS YOU CAN TAKE TO FOCUS BACK ON YOURSELF.
TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST.
IT'S NOT A WASTE OF TIME
We all have a lot going on... all the time, and it's hard to pull away and think "what do I need right now." BUT it's so necessary!!!
In order to be productive you need to be taken care of both physically and mentally. Taking time for yourself is not selfish and NOT a waste of time.
WHATEVER MAKES YOU HAPPY. DO THAT!
I've recently found that I really enjoy watching YouTube videos!
FOCUS ON YOUR GOALS.
Is where you're spending your energy helping you reach your goals?
In Lydia's video she says "Comparison is one of the most unproductive things you can do for yourself."
This is the statement that turned my whole attitude around. It's what gave me a new outlook toward life and blogging!
I've got to be honest... it's hard to have your job revolve around social media. I would constantly look for ways to compare myself to others I considered were more or less successful than me. It was time for me to cut out this destructive habit.
Looking back I wasted so much time worrying over others that I missed great opportunities to better myself. We are all trying to figure life out, and no one has it easy. We all have our stuff that we have to deal with, and instead of making assumptions we should be giving grace. No one's life is perfect.
IT TAKES TIME.
even when you feel like quitting. REMEMBER why you love it.
A lot of times we feel that because we aren't where we want to be in life... it's our fault. Well maybe sometimes it is, but a majority of the time it's because good things take time. Success is relative and as long as you think you are successful that's all that matters. If you live your whole life trying to prove to others that you're successful then you'll never truly be happy.
It's all about celebrating the accomplishments along the way. That's what will keep you going and motivated for the marathon ahead. Life is not a sprint, and it takes endurance to keep pushing through. Even during the hard times, take a moment to reflect on all of the good in your life. All of the accomplishments you've made up until this point. That is what will motivate you, and give you hope for the future ahead!
I can't say that I have mastered all of these, but I can say that I have had these at the forefront of my mind and it's made the BIGGEST difference in my attitude! I've felt more more motivated to accomplish my goals and to lift up others along the way. I hope this gives you encouragement for the week ahead!
