A Weekend With Getaway

We were invited by Away & Getaway to experience 3 days of rest and relaxation outside of Nashville, TN. Jason and I both grew up camping, so we loved getting back to our roots with a change of pace in the woods! Getaway cabins are totally worth it!

Below is our vlog of the experience & my tips for getting the most out of your Getaway cabin experience!

WHERE ARE THEY LOCATED?

We went to the Getaway outpost closest to Nashville which is about 2 hours outside of the city in Moss, TN. There’s also a location closer to the Smokey’s 2 hours outside of Atlanta in the the forests of Suches, GA (Chattahoochee location). Below is the list of current Getaway locations if you’re not from TN! We felt very safe in our Getaway cabin.

WHAT COMES IN THE CABIN?

There are cabins with 1 queen bed or 2 queen bunk beds if you have kids or want to go with another couple! Each one has air conditioning, heater, a shower and toilet & a huge window looking out into the woods.

The cabin comes with a fire pit, chairs, & a picnic table outside. They also have a bin of fire wood and fire starter available to purchase if you don’t want to pack your own.

The cabin is equipped with fresh sheets & pillows, towels, wash cloths, and dish towels.

And the tiny kitchen area has a 2 burner electric stovetop, mini fridge, and tiny sink (with hot water)

NOTE: there is not a pourover set up in the cabin, so if you love your fancy coffee be sure to bring all of your coffee gear :)

ADDITIONAL included items

Salt, Pepper, olive oil packets, a gooseneck kettle for the stove, utensils, cups, mugs, wood spatulas, can opener, knives, rechargeable lantern, a bluetooth speaker/radio, a deck of playing cards, books, scissors, lighters, a dog bowl, a long leash for you pup to be attached to the picnic table.

items available for purchase

individual coffee pourer packets, tea bags, hot chocolate, bug repellent wipes, fire wood, fire starter.

They also have food kits available for purchase when you book your trip which include cans of soup, granola bars, snacks, pasta, etc.

CAN I BRING MY DOG?

Yes! It’s an additional fee per night to bring your pup, but it’s super dog friendly. There are poop bag stations along the campsite & the place comes with a long leash to hook your pup up to the picnic table when you’re outside. We saw lots of dogs at other cabins, so your dog would be joined by others!

WHAT TO DO & WHERE TO GO?

These were my top questions before we left for our Getaway as well! What’s great about Getaway is that they will send you an email ahead of time with your date confirmation, a packing list of what to bring, where the closest grocery store is, & what to do in the area of your cabin! This was really helpful for us when looking for hiking trails & places to eat and buy groceries near the campsite.

TIPS TO ENJOY YOUR GETAWAY

Buy your groceries before you get there if you like really specific items! We ended up shopping at the suggested, closest grocery store which had what we needed but was really limited in it’s variety. So if you like a certain type of bread, or snack, or box of Mac and cheese I would recommend grabbing that before you head to your cabin! They’re located outside of small towns which means a lot of the stores in the area are limited in what they offer (no Publix or Whole Foods lol).

Pack light - there isn’t a ton of room inside the actual cabin to put bags! There’s a little cubby below the bed for a couple of bags, but other than that there’s no where else. I would recommend packing evening in 2 or 3 bags/totes if you can! You can also leave extra things in your car if you need of course.

Bring a book or games - the whole point of the Getaway cabin is to unplug, rest, and connect with the people you go with! I would recommend bringing your favorite board game, a deck of cards, and a book.

Don’t plan on working while you’re there - No, there’s no wifi & that’s a good thing! Don’t plan on getting on your computer to do some quick work… this is a getaway so lean into it and disconnect. The cabins also have pretty spotty cell service, so make sure to take a screen shot of the camp ground map (they’ll send it to you before your trip) so you can find your cabin when you turn off of the main road.

Pack a blanket & extra towels - The cabin comes with a down comforter & a heating unit, but if you’re chilly sitting outside in the morning or by the fire you may want to pack an additional blanket! I would also suggest bringing an extra towel to wipe down the camp chairs & picnic table bench in the morning because of the morning dew.
