What comes in the box for the Updated Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler Complete Long?
This styling tool is a multi-styler which means you’re going to get a lot of different uses out of it - which also means you’re going to get a lot of different attachments and accessories for it as well. Dyson is known for it’s presentation and it’s innovation (kinda like Apple), so expect a well packaged product when purchasing! Also its $600, so it better be well packaged lol. The box itself is pretty hefty. I was honesty shocked by how heavy it was when I first picked it up at Sephora. Inside of the box is a large storage case to keep your Dyson and all of the attachments organized. This is actually really nice that it comes with a box because like I said earlier, there are a bunch of small attachments that would be a bummer to lose track of. It also is nice if you’d like to keep your Airwrap out on your counter for quick access. It’s a pretty big container, so I keep it under my counter because it takes up a good amount of space. Inside of the box is your Dyson Airwrap & attachments.
How many attachments come with the Dyson Airwrap? Will I use all of the Airwrap attachments?
There are 6 different attachments that come with the Dyson Airwrap. The Coanda smoothing dryer, 1.2 inch Airwrap™ long barrel, 1.6 inch Airwrap™ long barrel, Soft smoothing brush, Firm smoothing brush, and the Round volumizing brush.
What do each of the Dyson Airwrap styling attachments do?
Coanda smoothing dryer: This is your hairdryer attachment (takes the place of a traditional hairdryer) & also hair smoother. This tool is multifunctional for quickly drying your hair & also for taming flyaways from basically root to ends.
1.2 inch Airwrap™ long barrel: This is the smaller barrel curling attachment. Designed for more defined curls, but still give a really voluminous blown out look. The updated Dyson Airwrap now allows you to change the direction of your curls by simply turning a nob on the curling attachment instead of having to switch out the barrel - huge win & overall time saver!
1.6 inch Airwrap™ long barrel: This barrels is very similar in design to the 1.2 inch long barrel. It’s slightly wider design makes it perfect for loose, bouncy curls. This is the barrel most people use to get that salon blowout look - you know what I’m talking about :)
Soft Smoothing Brush: This is a paddle brush for fine hair - used for smoothing out the hair to reduce frizz. This attachment basically draws your hair, using airflow, to the brush to get every single piece of hair.
Firm Smoothing Brush: This is basically the same thing as the Soft Smoothing Brush, but the bristles are soft lol - honestly I don’t really see why there are 2 different ones.
Round Volumizing Brush: This round brush is for adding volume to the hair while you’re drying it. It’s also the most ideal attachment to use for bangs, curtain bangs, & face framing pieces. This attachment can also be used for a quick blowout look without being curled by one of the barrels.
So why get the Dyson Airwrap? What’s so special & different about the Airwrap?
The Dyson Airwrap is a pricey investment, so what’s so special about it? Is it actually worth the money? Yes but… here’s the honest truth about the Dyson Airwrap. In my opinion the salon blowout look that you get using the Airwrap is gorgeous and personally I think extremely difficult to create without the tool. To get this kind of curl and volume requires a lot of skill using a hand dryer and round brush, and even then you wont get the dramatic look that you get using the Dyson. Even the best blowouts I’ve done at home haven’t come anywhere close to the results I get using the Dyson Airwrap. Most of the time when I try to do a blowout on my own, it’s clumsy, time consuming, and falls whiting minutes. The Dyson Airwrap honestly just makes it so easy to get big voluminous curls. It doesn’t require any really skill or coordination to get great results.
Are Dyson Airwrap curls different than using a curling iron? Should I get rid of my curling iron for the Dyson Airwrap?
Are the curls from the Airwrap different then a curling iron? - YES. The Dyson Airwrap is for getting a professional salon blowout look. Think voluminous, loose, bouncy, curls. The Airwrap uses air to wrap you hair around the barrels to mimic a round brush, hairdryer technique, and because you’re not clamping the hair like you would with a traditional curling iron your hair will ultimately have way more volume. Now if you’re wondering “should I get rid of my curling iron then?” I don’t think so. You’re going to get a very different look by using a curling iron, so if you like variety I would hold onto your curling iron & straightener. I do however think you could do away with your blow dryer! This is where I feel like people think it’s space saving, and it is if you decide to commit to only airwrap style curls. Or if you don’t have any styling tools this could really be all you need. As for me - I’m using the Dyson Airwrap as another style option not my only option.
Does the Dyson Airwrap save time? Is it faster than other hair dryers & curling irons?
Honesty hour - If anyone has said that the Dyson Airwrap is a huge time saver, then I’m doing it wrong. I have not found that the Dyson Airwrap saves me any time styling my hair. The dryer attachment is wonderful & quick, and using the round brush or paddle brush is also a fast way to style the hair, but those are for straight/sleek styles. Curling your hair with the Dyson Airwrap is not a quick process. At least from what I’ve experienced while using it the past few weeks. You have to work in relatively small sections so that the Airwrap can actually pick up all of the hair and hold it around the barrel. This might differ depending on your hair type. I imagine that if you have fine/thinner hair this actually wont be as big of a problem, but I have Asian hair. Which isn’t coarse, but it’s also not fine and light. My hair is medium thickness and the individual strands are thicker than fine hair, so for me personally I have to work in small sections. When I use a curling iron I work in larger sections, so this does take some getting used to. However, I will say being able to style your hair when its not 100% dry is actually really nice. Obviously if you try to curl your hair while it’s even the slightest bit damp still is pointless and harmful. With the Dyson Airwrap if you hair is 90% of the way dry you can go ahead and start styling - which is really nice!
Is the Dyson Airwrap better for your hair?
The Dyson Airwrap maxes out at 302 degrees which is on the low end when it comes to styling tools. Your typical curling iron goes well above 400 degrees, if you’re not using your curling iron on a high setting you may not see a huge difference to your hair by switching to the Airwrap. However, using the Airwrap basically guarantees that you wont ever accidentally fry your hair off :)
Do the Dyson Airwrap Curls Last? How to get your Airwrap curls to hold for multiple days!
This was my most asked question by far when I posted on my instagram that I bought a Dyson Airwrap. Do the curls last? Yes, but only with the right prep, products, and technique. Remember when I said it’s easier than round-brushing your hair? It technically is, but it also has it’s quirks that take a second to get the hang of. Once you do though you’ll see the real, lasting results of using your Airwrap. First up is prep! This is an important step, especially if your hair doesn’t typically hold with a curling iron. It’s all about product - you’ll want to find a good heat protectant & styling cream our mouse to apply after you hop out of the shower. Right now I’m using the Dry Bar Prep Prime & Rally Prep Detangler heat protectant & the Living Proof Perfect Hair Day styling cream. This is essential for your curls holding & also for protecting against heat. I typically will shower, towel dry my hair, apply my styling cream, then let my hair air dry to about 70% dry. Once my hair is mostly dry I’ll spray my heat protectant and go in with the round brush drying attachment to smooth out the ends before curling. Once the ends are smooth I’ll attach the curling barrel and section off my hair. I like to do the bottom first! You can watch my video to see how I section my hair.
Work with still slightly damp hair. This isn’t a must, but it is really helpful for curl retention. I would go in with the Curling Barrel while the hair is about 80% dry! Then using the curling barrel curl/dry it until its 100% dry.
Heat up the curling barrel! This is something I haven’t seen on YouTube or IG yet, but it makes sense to me lol - for those first few sections you’ll want to make sure the barrel is warm because if you’re going from a completely cooled barrel it’s going to take a little longer to get up to temp to curl your hair. Once you get into the other sections your barrel will already be warmed up, so it’s only the first couple of sections that I would hold it on the hair a little longer.
Be sure to set your curls with cold air. This is really important to getting your curls to stay put. After you hold the barrel with heat on your hair for around 10-15 seconds, use the “cold shot” button to set the curl. This function quickly cools the curl so that it doesn’t drop while it’s still warm and lose it’s shape. This is probably the most important step in getting your curls to last & is also why I say using the Dyson Airwrap isn’t time saving.
SO IS THE DYSON AIRWRAP WORTH IT?
Personally I really love mine - I have always wanted the blowout look & this is exactly the tool I need to get salon styled hair. I had considered buying it for over 6 months, so it wasn’t an impulse buy for me. I had done some research beforehand to see if it was something I would get a lot of use out of, and I have!! I’ve used it every time I’ve gone to style my hair. I actually had a bunch of people notice my new style of curls and ask about it because it’s not the traditional curled look. It’s the perfect addition to my hair styling tools, and I can see myself using it consistently for years. I will agree that it is expensive, but for the certain look that it’s able to accomplish I think it’s brilliant!! I’m very happy I took the plunge and got my Dyson Airwrap :)
