Is the Kindle Worth It? | My Honest Review of the Kindle Paperwhite & Guide to the Best Accessories

This cozy fall season, I decided to invest in a Kindle Paperwhite! Ever since getting my Kindle, I have grown to love reading even more, and I am so excited to share why I love the Kindle, the accessories every reader needs for theirs, and how I use it!

KINDLE TYPES - WHICH kindle IS BEST FOR YOU?

AMAZON KINDLE ($100) - for the reading beginner

PROS: Compact with a 6” glare-free screen and weeks of battery life. The price point on this version is the best of them all, almost one-third of the price of the Kindle Oasis.

CONS: Not waterproof nor does this version have an adjustable light. Is not able to charge wirelessly.

AMAZON KINDLE Paperwhite ($140) - for the avid reader & the one i have!

PROS: Compact with a 6.8” glare-free screen and weeks of battery life. Multiple options for storage (8 GB or 16 GB). This version is waterproof and has an adjustable warm light.

CONS: Does not feature page turn buttons or automatic rotating page orientation. Does not have auto-adjusting lighting and is not able to be charged wirelessly.

AMAZON KINDLE Oasis ($250) - For the advanced reading guru

PROS: Compact with a 7” glare-free screen and weeks of battery life. Multiple options for storage (8 GB or 32 GB). This version is waterproof and has an adjustable warm light as well as an auto-adjusting light. This version of the Kindle stands out, because it offers both automatic rotating page orientation and page turn buttons. This version also has both Wifi and free cellular connectivity.

CONS: This version of the Kindle is almost double in price to the other options; I would only recommend this version to someone who reads incredibly frequently and is looking to invest in something of a higher price point.

PRO TIP: One thing to keep in mind, each type of Kindle has two purchasing options. One option has ads, while the other is a little more expensive, but ad-free. My advice is to invest a little more in the ad-free version; I did this, and I am so happy that I did, because I keep my e-reader for reading only, and I can make my current book cover the lockscreen!

KINDLE ACCESSORIES

5 REASONS YOU NEED A KINDLE

The transportability

The Kindle is compact and easy to take with you on any adventure, whether you’re going on an every day errand or going on a trip. With this lightweight e-reader, you’re able to hold as many books as your heart desires, which allows for less clutter and easier access to more reading than reading physical books.

The Libby App & KINDLE UNLIMITED

With the Kindle, you can avoid having to drive to the library whenever you’re looking to rent a book! The Libby app is an incredible asset for readers to be able to rent books and easily download them onto their Kindle! Typical loans last up to three weeks, but you can extend the loan if you need or want to! The only con to the Libby app is when a book you desire to read is not available; you can place a hold, but it can take quite a long time depending on the number of people ahead of you.

Another great option for readers is Kindle Unlimited, a curated selection of books by Amazon from readers to choose from. With each Kindle purchase, you can decide if you want the free subscription to this that is included. I would recommend this, because you have the opportunity to either read trending books for free or find an unexpected favorite. After your free subscription ends, you have the ability to cancel or to extend the membership for $10 a month, which is still cheaper than buying one book at your local bookstore! The only con to the Kindle Unlimited subscription is that the selection is limited.

The Features

The Kindle was crafted with some of the coolest features, making it far greater than reading normal books. The screen is sleek with lighting that you can adjust, and the font size is also adjustable to your liking. These features allow you to take care of your eyes and avoid any sort of eye strain or headache!

I don’t know about you, but I feel so motivated by the idea of knowing how much time I have left reading. The Kindle allows you to decide if you want to see remaining time in your current chapter or in the book as a whole. This has pushed me to keep my momentum going, because it makes finishing a reading goal seem easier to attain.

Other features that make the Kindle worth the investment are the long battery life, lasting for weeks at a time. The Kindle is also waterproof, allowing readers to avoid the scare of their device getting any water damage. This feature is perfect for the reader who wants to relax enjoying a bubble bath at the end of the day or for the reader who wants to bring her book along to the pool in the summer!

The Dictionary App

Have you ever been reading a book and been confused as to what a certain word means? Honestly same. Having the ability to look up the meanings of words that I am confused about with the Dictionary app is a game changer. I really feel as though I have been able to expand my vocabulary and enhance my knowledge while I’m reading.

Samples of Books You Are Interested In

If you’ve ever been interested in a book, but you’re scared of fully committing to it with the fear of hating it, this is for you! Kindle allows you to download a sample of the beginning of each book, allowing you to see whether or not you will enjoy it enough to commit to purchasing it!
